Down and Out

Tuesday evening I held my little lump in my arms, and he felt hot hot hot. I took his temperature and the thermometer read 103.8! Justin questioned the accuracy, so after digging around for a while to find another thermometer we took it again and got a reading of 104. I called Wyatt's pediatrician's office, and luckily they don't close until 8pm, so they were able to get us in at 7:40. I'm not too fond of the pediatrician we saw(not our normal doc) but he did decide that Wyatt had a sinus infection and some fluid in his ears. That would explain things! Despite forcing tylenol and motrin down his throat all night, along with antibiotics, his fever didn't go down, and we all had a very restless night. Wednesday was much the same, Wyatt = lump. His fever was still bouncing between 102-104 and he wasn't eating. Being that he is my baby I was starting to worry. Thursday he seemed to hit his low. He slept for 90% of the day and would fall asleep in my arms any chance he got, he didn't eat, and his temperature was still hovering in the 103 range. Then, like someone flipped a switch, he woke up from a nap Thursday evening and was happy, playing, and even asking for food! I was hoping that he had turned the corner and we were on the road to recovery. Today, Friday he seems to be his normal wacky self. Still slightly warm, yet nowhere near the boiling point he was at these past few days. I am so happy that he is feeling better, especially since I think both of us were getting a little stir crazy just sitting in the house! This was his first illness and hopefully the last for at least a while to come!

Prelude To An Illness

Sunday morning Wyatt and I woke up as Justin was heading to bed - he just got off working nights the past couple days. We started about our normal morning together routine, made coffee and breakfast for both of us, then settled on the couch together to watch Mickey Mouse. After a couple minutes of Wyatt hanging out on the living room floor he came over and climbed into my lap - a welcome surprise. Normally if my wiggly worm even asks to be held, it only lasts a minute or two. Yet surprisingly he sat on my lap, and shared the occasional sip of coffee with me, making a quiet "mmm" sound after every sip. Now Wyatt has never been one to cuddle. Ever since he could move on his own he has been on the go, so this was a situation I was definitely going to take advantage of. We went to his book basket and gathered a few books, then tucked ourselves into the corner of the couch for a good read. Several reads of "Go Dog Go", and "Goodnight Moon" later, he was still happy as a clam on my lap. Not wanting to get up and on with our day, when I was enjoying every second of this so much, I pulled out our laptop and Wyatt and I paid a visit to youtube.com. He has been learning farm animal sounds and just loves animals in general, so we looked up various videos of farm animals making noises - this was a huge hit! Wyatt's favorite was the donkey, he would make his "cheeser" face, look at me and crack up laughing as the donkey he-hawed away.
An hour later I decided as much as I was enjoying this rare occasion, we should probably get on with the day. As the day went on Wyatt was his fun and happy self, yet he was getting progressively more cranky. I suspected something might be lurking but was hoping that wasn't the case. Sunday night he slept in our bed, now I knew it was coming, just didn't know when. Monday morning I woke, anticipating a sick son. And yet, no signs of illness. I however was another story. After two and a half years cold free, I was hit, and I think I have a sinus infection to boot! Monday went relatively well, a little crank, but otherwise himself. Monday night he again spent in between Justin and I in bed, Tuesday morning, it had arrived. His first real illness, caught right from me. He's red, he's hot, he's stuffy and cranky and I feel horrible for him. Right now he's down for a nap with a fever of 101.2, and that's after his dose of tylenol. I sure did enjoy the cuddly little boy who I hadn't met before, but now I'm ready for my little fireball back.

Star Light, Star Bright

Last night, January 29, was what will be the brightest appearing moon of 2010. This is because it happens to be at a place in it's orbit where it is closest to the earth, yet coincides with a full moon, making it appear bigger and brighter. I took a couple pictures with my camera because I was interested to see how they would turn out and I was pretty amazed at what I was able to pick up.

A Much Welcomed Piece of Mail

In my past few years as a student at the University of Alaska, most of the letters I have received have either said something along the lines of "please pay your parking ticket" or "stop being lazy and do your work" of course they word things a little better then that. So the letter I received in the mail today made me so happy, and proud of myself:

It was so nice to see some recognition for my hard work last semester and earning my first 4.0 gpa in my college history. Especially since I did it while still taking care of a little fireball and dealing with constant morning sickness. I may be bragging a little bit, but it's something I rarely get to do. =)

Lloyd

Tonight was an attempt at haircut number three for Wyatt. Everything was going smoothly until I tried to use the clippers to trim the sides and back. That buzzing feel against the back of his neck made a shiver run through his little body, and that was the end of that, clippers are not his friend. Between Justin holding him, feeding him fruit, and putting some Mickey Mouse on for him to watch, I somehow managed to cut his hair into a manageable length. Whether it looks good or not is up for debate. I was afraid with all of his squirming I would have to rename him Lloyd after his haircut was done:

Maybe I'll leave Wyatt's haircuts to the pros after this.
Here's the end result, I believe he looks pretty dang handsome. There are a couple places that will need to be evened up, but we decided to save that adventure for the morning.

BEFORE

AFTER

And now a note about spectacles: If Wyatt ever has to get glasses, he will be thrilled. He puts on glasses any chance that he gets. Of course when I go to put them on the are smudged to a nice cloudy finish, but they have provided at least minutes of entertainment.

Friends Old and New

I am so lucky to have great friends that have been there for years. And even luckier that some of my friends decided to have children at the same time as I did. They have been longtime "playmates" for me, and now we have created hopefully longtime playmates for our children!

Here pictured is Courtney, her daughters: Jessalyn, 2, and Aizlyn 6 weeks, Me with Wyatt, 16 months, and Susanna with Sariah, 18 months. AND!...a little one in my belly due July 6th, and a little one in Susanna's belly due August 6th! YAY!! Of course when taking a picture involving wiggly ones and adults it's hard to get everyone looking, so this was the best shot.

Cade is a friend of Wyatt's who is also close in age. He just turned two. And even though they are newer friends of ours, we have known them for a couple years, they have become great friends, and Cade and Wyatt have a blast together.

Then of course one of Wyatt's favorite friends, his cousin Haydn. And despite a 5 year age gap, I don't think either one of them realizes that it's even there.

A Brand New Doggy Backpack

When my brothers and I were young, my Mom made us these great doggy backpacks. I used to love stuffing it full with as many books as I could fit, and carrying it around. Or getting to put snacks and books and taking it on the airplane with me for our many travels. They were great backpacks that brought us years of fun around the house and out and about. So when my Mom told me that she had made one for Wyatt I was so happy, especially since he has been a dog lover since birth. He immediately gave it a hug and kiss when she brought it over for him, and although he was a little unsure of having it on his back at first, he didn't seem to mind it after a bit, and walked around with a doggy on his back for a while. I know this will be something Wyatt treasures for years, but I hope my Mom knows that this means she has to make doggy backpacks for all future children as well.

I'm dreaming of Greece

Yep, that's right. For the past couple of weeks we have been right along with the rest of the country and experiencing unusually cold temperatures. Last week we saw 35 degrees below zero, and it's supposed to get back down there this weekend. Ugh! It has left me dreaming of our honeymoon, a two week cruise through the Greek Isles in July. HOT, yes, but oh so beautiful. We consistently saw temperatures over 100 degrees everyday! We went to Greece, Italy, Crotia and Turkey. We had an amazing time and I came back with one of the best tans of my life, although Justin slightly resembled a lobster. And now as I sit cooped up in my house, not daring to venture out for too long, my mind drifts to the crystal clear waters and warm rays of sun. Even if it's 30 years from now, we will do that again!

Mykonos, Greece

Corfu, Greece

Hiking Mt. Vesuvius, Pompei/Naples, Italy
On our ship, check out my tan!!!

Lucky for us, since we are stuck at home, we have a great entertainment system, I'll post a picture:

Sure keeps us very entertained and occupied. Hopefully one day soon he will see the sun again! Until then I guess I'll just keep dreaming.

Wonderful Wednesday

I am having a wonderful time lately trying out my new camera on my favorite subject!

This I had to share also. Justin's Mom made this for Wyatt. It is all hand done - cut out of mat board - amazing! This will surely be something that will hang in Wyatt's room for years to come!
